Bell Tower

The Bell Tower at St Martin's Church

The 30-meter-high Bell Tower at St Martin's Church, opened by Her Majesty the Queen and dedicated by The Rt. Revd. John Perry on 12th March 1999, houses eight historic bells. Six were gifted from the church of St Nicholas, Colchester, and all were crafted over 500 years ago at London’s Whitechapel Bell Foundry. The Tenor Bell, cast in 1441 by Joanna Hille, is the first bell in the world made by a woman. The bells were rededicated on the church's 40th anniversary in November 2002.
